Education in Mallorca

Parents who emigrate with their children have two choices: choose a school in the host country where the child will follow the local curriculum or find an international school where the child will be educated in the system of another country. Both systems in Mallorca have high standards. Many students achieve excellent results and attend University in Spain, UK or other countries of their choice.
Summer programmes are numerous affordable and fun! State Schools Free education is available in Mallorcan schools. The standard is high and as lessons are given in both Spanish & Catalan, this is a sensible choice for young children. It is amazing how quickly they become fluent in both dialects. State Aided For a small fee there are state aided schools where the classes are smaller and more Spanish is spoken in this system. Older children may be more comfortable in this environment. International Schools In Mallorca there are British, French, German and Scandinavian schools They are all private and monthly fees vary depending on age between 500€ to 1000€. International schools have a good reputation offering the same courses as state schools plus the curriculum (and examinations) of their own country. Statistics for University entrance are on a par with the UK. Children have the best of both worlds. Pupils come from many different countries, the experience can be culturally enriching and a fantastic opportunity to learn several languages with native speakers. Most of the International Schools are in SW of Mallorca in Portals Nous, Palmanova, Genova, and Bendinat. Sports are taught in all the schools and excellent coaching is available in a variety of sports including tennis, sailing, football & athletics plus many other activities which can only be enjoyed in Mallorcas´wonderful climate.
